Position Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a research Technician B to work in the laboratory of Dr. Connolly. The lab is located in the Irving Cancer Research Center, and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment used to conduct research in understanding the mechanisms of radiation effects on cancer.  The Technician B will provide research support in discovering new cancer therapeutics using cell lines and mice tumor models.


Responsibilities

Candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Breeding mice and maintaining mice colony
  • Maintaining cell lines
  • Performing biochemical assays
  • Performing radiation experiments using Small Animal Radiation Research Platform (SARRP)
  • Presenting data in lab meeting
  • Working independently or within a group
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new laboratory techniques, as deemed necessary by PIs or Lab Managers.
  • Perform all other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or physics or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience.
  • Meticulous, attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
  • Well organized and good time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to work independently in an orderly manner and in accordance with all safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be comfortable in handling mice.
  • Previous hands-on experience in animal cell culture.
  • Some experience in a research lab or a core facility is preferred.
