Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician B to join our team in a full time position to work within the division of Nephrology. Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing a laboratory technician B role to Fangming Lin, MD, PhD, in the division of Pediatric Nephrology.  This position will support the department by performing laboratory experiments in support of scientific research projects related to basic science research in kidney development and regeneration. 


Responsibilities

  • Interacts with the principal investigators and laboratory members (students, postdoctoral fellows, and others) to plan research projects and assist with day-to-day laboratory management. 
  • Performs statistical analysis of data; prepares and performs internal progress reports on experiments.
  • Assists in orientation and training of new investigators, fellows, visiting trainees, and others as needed.
  • Monitors compliance with safety rules in the lab under supervision of PIs.
  • Attends weekly laboratory meetings and other training programs in other collaborating laboratories as needed.
  • Mouse tissue harvesting, kidney histology and immunostaining.
  • Perform administrative duties as needed, including but not limited to: ordering supplies and reagents, performing inventory on laboratory materials, organizing freezers and other storage, reconciling purchase charges through central administration, submitting purchases orders when required.
  • May conduct computational studies and or manage research databases.
  • May contribute to publications and research presentations. 
  • Image acquisition with microscope and computer.
  • Western blot analysis, Maintenance of transgenic mouse lines, and Record keeping of laboratory materials.
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred.
  • One year of related experience preferred.
