Position Summary

The Technician B will provide general research support in a Molecular Medicine laboratory particularly as it relates to projects investigating liver diseases, diabetes and cholesterol metabolism.


Responsibilities

  • Perform mouse dissection for collection of tissue samples.
  • Perform mouse genotyping, tail vein injection, subcutaneous and intraperitoneal injections.
  • Assist with blood glucose and lipid analysis.
  • Assist with isolation of hepatocytes, glucose and insulin tolerance tests.
  • Extract nucleic acids, protein and lipid from mouse and cell culture samples.
  • Perform analytical techniques such as real time quantitative PCR, Western blot analysis, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Acquire and analyze microscopy images of histological samples.
  • Maintain the mouse colony and laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety and laboratory safety guidelines.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with mouse colonies, extracting nucleic acids and protein, and Western blot analysis
  • Experience performing basic biochemical extractions

Other Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made
  • Position will involve work with laboratory animals
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program
  • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
