Position Summary

The Department of Anesthesiology of Columbia University’s Medical Center has a grant-funded Technician B position available. Our research focuses on the effect of anesthetic agents on mouse brain and heart mitochondria.

Responsibilities

• Have proficiency with breeding mice
• Care for rodent colonies
• Work with live animals in a wet lab environment
• Work with newborn mouse pups, adult mice and exposing harvested mitochondria to various anesthetics.
• All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or related sciences or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Experience with brain and heart tissue collection, mitochondrial isolation, enzyme activity assays, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, light and fluorescence microscopy are desired.

• Must be able to work with minimal supervision and develop and learn new techniques as required for these studies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree is preferred.

• Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques is preferred.

• A minimum of five years related experience is preferred.
