Position Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Marks', Chair and Principal Investigator, in the Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics is seeking a highly-motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Technician B.

The successful candidate will be responsible for studying the calcium channel known as the ryanodine receptor (RyR) both in vitro and in vivo.  Experiments will include protein biochemistry and purification, molecular modeling, analyzing protein-protein interactions, and studying the effect of biochemical modifications on RyR channel activity.  Abnormal calcium handling has been implicated in several diseases and one of the candidate’s primary duties will be to investigate the role of RyR in pathophysiology using several unique animal models.


Responsibilities

  • Biochemical characterization of RyR from various tissues
  • Measuring intracellular calcium handling in isolated cells
  • Cell culture, protein expression
  • Protein purification
  • Molecular Modeling
  • Evaluating the effect of RyR stabilizing drugs in these animal models
  • PCR

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Physics or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Strong Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to accuracy and detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior laboratory experience and be a highly motivated person with a strong background in protein biochemistry (immunoprecipitation, Westerns, binding studies, etc.) and molecular biology including expression and purification of ion channels.
  • Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred.
