Position Summary

An entry-level research technician position (Technician B) is available in the laboratory of Dr. Cory Abate-Shen at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The Technician B position is ideal for a highly motivated recent college graduate seeking to obtain research experience.

The Technician B will provide research support to a molecular biology laboratory that is focused on the analysis of genetically engineered mouse models of cancer. The primary role of the Technician B will be to provide support for studies related to mouse husbandry and translational research studies using mouse models.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab members with research activities including laboratory-based research, activities related to histological and immunohistochemical analyses, lab safety and compliance, and general running of the laboratory.
• Conduct experiments related to analyses of mouse models of cancer.
• Conduct experiments according to written directions, assisting in collecting samples and preparing lab solutions and/or cultures.
• Maintains lab notebooks and records related to the work.
• Additional related tasks upon request.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in mouse husbandry is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of related laboratory procedures and techniques is preferred.
• One year of related experience is preferred (can be undergraduate research experience).
