Position Summary

The Hargus Lab at the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University is looking for a highly motivated, skilled and driven research assistant who is interested in stem cell biology, stem cell differentiation and neurodegenerative diseases. We use differentiated human induced pluripotent stem cells to identify mechanisms leading to neuronal degeneration in frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. As an important member of the team, the research assistant will culture and differentiate pluripotent stem cells and will perform Western blots, qPCR, immunohistochemical studies and additional in vitro and in vivo assays on these cells. The position is available full-time. Applicants with a strong interest in an academic career are especially encouraged to apply. A Bachelor's degree in science is required.

Responsibilities

• Stem cell culture and differentiation (40%)

• qPCR (10%)

• Western blots (10%)

• Molecular assays (10%)

• Cell transplantation (10%)

• Immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry (20%)

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or physics or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience
