Position Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Columbia University Irving Medical center has an opening for a translational immuno-oncology research assistant to start immediately. The position seeks candidates with prior laboratory experience, ideally with a focus on immuno-oncology. Specifically, we are seeking candidates experienced in the coordination of fresh human tissue collection, immediate processing for immunologic assays, and organization / storage of valuable human samples.

Qualified candidates will be proficient in or learn experimental techniques including tissue culture, flow cytometry, cytokine profiling along with other core molecular biology techniques (PCR, western blots, ELISA, etc.). The position offers exciting opportunities to learn sophisticated high-parametric immunologic assays, including high-parametric spectral flow cytometry (CyTEK Arora), quantitative multi-plex immunofluorescence (qmIF), and single cell RNAseq (scRNASeq). Further, the candidate will learn how to support the development and maintenance of IRB protocols and interact with clinical trial participants who enroll on our investigator-initiated clinical trials and interact directly with our industry (pharma) partners as we translate our preclinical findings back to our patients.

Responsibilities

• Screening cancer patients using our electronic medical record
• Consenting patients for our translational research project
• Entering patient data into database
• Coordinating and collecting patient biospecimens from our multidisciplinary oncology team (surgeons, medical oncologist, pathologist, nuclear medicine, etc).
• Processing human biospecimens for single cell RNAseq, spatial seq (Visium), flow cytometry, etc.
• Learning to perform data analysis
• Working collaboratively with team members in the laboratory and clinic
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Qualified candidates should hold a bachelors or M.A. degree in medical sciences or a related discipline with a proven record of collaborative laboratory experience or equivelent in education, training and experience.
• Proficient in or learn experimental techniques including tissue culture, flow cytometry, cytokine profiling along with other core molecular biology techniques (PCR, western blots, ELISA, etc.).
• Motivated, creative, and collaborative individuals who are interested in learning new techniques.
• Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills to join our highly collaborative team.
