Position Summary

The Technician B will work closely with the Pl and research team in the Basic Science Research Group in the Division of Surgical Science at Department of Surgery at Columbia University. The Technician B will perform multiple assignments under direct supervision.


Responsibilities

Assisting with the designing and implementing of experiments critical to the lab, which may include molecular cloning, animal work, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry analysis.

  • Perform laboratory experiments and collect data.
  • Contribute to research implementation.
  • Assist with ordering laboratory supplies.
  • Maintaining a lab notebook or records related to task
  • Managing and maintaining mouse colonies, cutting mouse tails and Excel Data entry.
  • Preparing solutions, isolating DNA, performing PCR, preparing and running agarose gels, detecting DNA and recording the results.
  • Mouse brain slices, perfusion and image, record for synaptic activity/electrophysiology, and mouse behavior test.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents for daily lab use.
  • Calibration/upkeep of laboratory equipment.
  • Interact with personnel from other related research projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of related laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent organization skills
