Position Summary

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly organized and enthusiastic technician. 

The primary responsibilities of this position include: participation in day-to-day laboratory research projects under the direction of the Principal Investigator and lab manager. Skills frequently utilized to complete daily tasks include: basic lab skills (e.g. pipetting, loading a gel), phlebotomy, and sterile technique

This role involves both wet lab work and animal model management, with opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge projects involving adeno-associated virus (AAV) biology, immune profiling, and antibody discovery

A successful candidate will be a self-starter, work well within teams, have excellent organizational and record keeping skills, and be able to multi-task while maintaining precision and quickness.


Responsibilities

  • 45% - Recording/analyzing data
  • 20% - Performing animal experiments

  • 20% - General lab maintenance

  • 10% - Animal husbandry

  • 5% - Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher)
  • Prior lab experience is a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in teams, good interpersonal skills Ideal candidate will be highly motivated, highly organized, able to multi-task, take initiative, start and complete projects, and have impeccable record keeping skills
