We are seeking a talented animal care part-time Technician A to join a team of scientists utilizing mouse models to study Alzheimer’s Disease. This is a part-time position with the opportunity to switch to a full-time position depending on the need of the principal investigators and job performance. This is an entry level position, and extensive training will be available by an experienced animal care research associate. However, the ideal applicant would possess some prior experience working with, as well as a strong work ethic, self motivation, and the ability to work well with others. Our goal is to provide the highest quality care to the animals in order to conduct the research using animal models at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
Responsibilities include managing mouse colonies: weaning mouse pups, crossing transgenic mice by understanding the basic Mendelian genetics, and updating an electronic mouse cage census. With time and training, will serve as a liaison between the lab and animal facility staff. Must be interested in and enthusiastic about working with mouse models.
Requires two years of college or a completed A.A program with an emphasis on chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience.
Some prior laboratory experience. Volunteer or intern work is desireable.
Familiarity with biological terminology and techniques
Some hands on experience performing molecular biology in a laboratory setting
Ability to keep records in an orderly fashion
Self motivated, with a personal desire to perform the job well
