Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician A to join our team in a full time position. Columbia University Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing laboratory support to a PI in the area of stem cell and cardiac research.
Responsibilities
The assistant will work both independently and sometimes under the supervision of the Principal Investigator on various aspects of running, assisting with managing and writing results of basic experiments in stem cell and cardiology. The candidate will carry out molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology on pluripotent stem cells and differentiated cells, including molecular cloning, gene expression profiling, protein purification, maintenance of mammalian cell lines and live cell imaging with microscopes and DNA transfection and manipulation and viral infection. In addition, s/he will manage mouse colonies, purify and quantify DNA for the production of transgenic mice, culture primary cardiomyocytes, carry out gene targeting procedures and anatomical studies, keep organized laboratory records, maintain lab supplies, prepare solutions, administrative duties to assist grant application and any other duties as assigned.

Willing to work some weekend hours. Highly organized with great attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to prioritize, work independently and as a team member, exercise sound judgment and discretion, maintain a high level of confidentiality, and the ability to work under pressure are essential. Computer skills including Excel and Word.
