Position Summary
The Human Genetics Resources Core laboratory processes and stores clinical samples to be used in genetic research. The precise location of these samples is necessary to be able to track their location in the future. This is achieved by using an unambiguous samples labelling system and their inclusion in the lab database which will indicate their precise location.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will inventory clinical samples already stored at -80oC, they include plasma, serum, and spinal cord fluid. These samples are in cryotubes contained in freezer boxes, their identity and precise location needs to be determined per box and this information in turn be uploaded in our database. Sample inventory needs to be done in dry ice to keep the samples frozen. The chosen candidate will be trained to accomplish this task.
The newcomer must be able to concentrate, understand the importance of this job in terms of precision, organization and dedication. Success of research is directly dependent on the generation of a precise sample inventory.
The candidate should share lab maintenance duties as required, such as unpack lab supply stocks and their organization as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis on chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience.
Other Requirements
Proficiency in excel.
Ability to lift and carry freezer’s racks weighting 40-50 lbs.
