Position Summary

The Columbia Center for Translational Immunology CCTI is looking for a technician to support research in a large animal transplant immunology laboratory. The projects are translational studies, and the technician will participate in both in vitro and in vivo work. The technician will work with the PI and postdoctoral scientist on bench lab duties.


  • Assist with laboratory experiments and prepare materials for and assisting in experiments.
  • Process PBMCs from NHP, pig, and human blood.
  • Perform flow cytometry, in vitro cellular assays, and immune co-culture assays.
  • Responsible for storing blood and animal specimens.
  • Maintaining a lab notebook and records related to task.
  • Preparing buffers, medias, solutions, and cultures.
  • Order and maintain laboratory/clinical supplies.
  • Assist with supplies inventory and restock as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or necessary to the functioning of the laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program
  • One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and experience
  • Ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner in accordance with safety
  • Ability to follow regulations and standard clinical protocols
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety
  • Ability to keep records in an orderly fashion
  • Ability to communicate with students, postdocs and faculty

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scientific background (either college major, pre-med, or prior experience with scientific research)
  • Immunology background
  • Familiarity with chemistry, biology or physics terminology and techniques

Other Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program
  • Position involves working with animals
  • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
