The State Pre-College Enrichment Program (S-PREP) is a free high school and college preparation program for 7th -12th grade students who reside in New York City. The long-range objective of the program is to increase the number of underrepresented minority practitioners in healthcare and STEM professions. As such, this is an opportunity designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine or related STEM fields. The program offers academic enrichment courses that are designed to prepare students for success in math and science. The program also offers career development workshops, college counseling services, field trips and college tours. For the summer program, SPREP will be hosted from June through August.
SPREP Preceptors will lead math and science courses for middle and high school students. Participating students come from diverse backgrounds and generally have varying skillsets. Ideal candidates for the SPREP Preceptor positions are those interested in working with students who fit the demographics previously described. This is a great opportunity to exercise curriculum construction, establish and execute course instruction, and differentiation skills. Course offerings will include, but may not be limited to Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Biology, Chemistry, Geometry and Pre-calculus.
Preceptors will report to the SPREP Program Administrators within the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
