The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Specialty Mechanic performs operations as required by the job work order and/or blueprint or diagram in preventive maintenance and repairs to various types of plumbing and heating equipment, and works without supervision in all phases of the plumbing trade.
Responsibilities
- Shall be able to analyze a fault and make corrections. Shall be able to size, cut and thread pipe and make up with fittings from sketch; clear stoppages with auger or roto-rooter; repair flush meters and valves and grind valve seats.
- Shall be able to cut, fit, and sweat or blaze all types of tubing and fittings. Shall have good knowledge in all phases of Oxyacetylene welding, and all types of electric arc welding, including spot welding, on metals such as aluminum, stainless steel, and copper.
- Shall be able to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on fans, filters, and pumps.
- Must have a home telephone and be available for emergency calls at night or on days off.
- Shall accept proportionate share of scheduled overtime work. Must be able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, and have the ability to properly direct and instruct fellow tradesmen.
- Pool and fountain mechanics must have the knowledge of piping and fitting systems, pumps, chemical makeup of pool waters, repair equipment, pumps, valves, and piping filters.
- Should also be able to evaluate what repairs have to be done.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent and four (4) years plumbing trade experience. Welding and metal fabrication.
