Position Summary

The Department of Health Sciences is seeking a Senior Research Worker to be responsible for conducting experiments and managing laboratory resources in a lab studying neurotoxicity in the context of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD).   Experimental models include C. elegans , cell and tissue culture.  The laboratory uses a wide range of techniques including western blots, immunocytochemistry, mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, microscopy, uptake and binding experiments.  The incumbent is well versed in many of these techniques along with general lab associated duties including the ordering of supplies, maintenance of equipment, inventory of samples, and compliance with environmental health and safety standards.  The incumbent should have a proven familiarity with the lab environment and require minimal supervision to perform their duties. 


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for carrying out fully planned experiments that meet the aims and goals of the lab as determined by the principal investigator (50%)
  • Maintenance of C. elegans and cell culture lines (10%)
  • Ensures the lab is operating within environmental health and safety guidelines as determined by Columbia University EH&S (5%)
  • Maintenance of equipment, working with vendors to troubleshoot technical aspects of research projects (15%)
  • Ordering of supplies and maintenance of laboratory inventory (10%)
  • Basic lab functions including preparing solutions, autoclaving and washing dishes as needed (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and at least three years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of related experience or equivalent in education, training, and experience.
