Position Summary

The Columbia University Irving Medical Center Division of Cardiology is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic candidate to join our team as a full-time Research Worker. This position provides general research support in a lab focused on translational biology, specifically molecular biology, cellular electrophysiology, arrhythmia research, and heart failure. Research activities will include standard molecular biology techniques, protein and gene expression, cell culture, in vitro experimentation, and animal model work. The role requires a high level of technical proficiency, initiative, and the ability to work independently under general supervision.


Responsibilities

  • Perform standard laboratory techniques including sample preparation, reagent handling, and data collection.
  • Conduct experiments involving tissue culture, animal models, and molecular biology methods.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, including interpretation of data and documentation of results.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional safety and regulatory protocols.
  • Support general lab maintenance including inventory management and equipment upkeep.
  • Organize and prepare the research lab to ensure efficient workflow and safety.
  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment according to experimental needs.
  • Keep thorough records of experimental procedures and outcomes for reproducibility and reporting.   
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a master's degree and at least one year of experience, or bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior lab experience with tissue culture, animal models, and standard molecular biology techniques preferred.     

Other Requirements

  • Must be willing to work with live animals as part of experimental procedures and care protocols.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and evolving research environment.
  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment.
