Position Summary
The IMPression in ACTion Lab (aka, the IMPACT Lab) at Columbia University, directed by Dr. Chujun Lin, conducts research into how people form impressions of others via both dubious shortcuts (e.g., images, short videos) and meaningful signals (e.g., dyadic interactions), and how these impressions influence consequential behavior in dynamic real-world interactions and decisions in politics, law, and science.
The lab is considering applications for a full-time Research Staff Assistant position starting in Summer/Fall 2025. The incumbent will work closely with Dr. Chujun Lin and support several programs of research in the lab investigating person perception in naturalistic contexts. The lab uses a variety of techniques, including online experiments, in-person interactions, cross-cultural designs, and computational modeling.
The lab is looking for applicants who have a passion for naturalistic person perception research (research staff are encouraged to read papers in the field of person perception and social cognition) and who are curious, energetic, conscientious, with a strong willingness to tackle novel and challenging tasks. Experience in computational modeling, audio/video/physiological data processing, statistical analysis, web development, or/and other skills that you think would be fun to apply to naturalistic person perception research is preferred.
Please note that to be considered for this position, you must also submit a code sample (can be in any language, such as Python, R, Javascript, etc.) by uploading it in the Supporting Documentation section of your application.
