The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Division of Ethics in the Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics at Columbia University is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to support innovative and interdisciplinary research on ethical issues related to AI and other emerging biotechnologies (genomics, synthetic biology, robotics, etc). This position will involve close collaboration with Division Chief Sandra Soo-Jin Lee at Columbia University and offers the opportunity to engage in cross-cutting bioethics research at the intersection of science and society.

This is a one-year full-time position with the possibility of extension.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings.
  • Support qualitative research activities, including interviews, focus groups, and ethnographic observations.
  • Assist with research-related administrative tasks such as data management, scheduling, and IRB submissions.
  • Contribute to grant proposals, manuscript preparation, and dissemination of research findings.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced training in bioethics, science and technology studies (STS), or related fields.
  • Experience in qualitative research methods are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated experience with qualitative research methods and data management.
  • Ability to think analytically and write clearly for scholarly and general audiences.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and experience working in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proven ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
