Position Summary

We are seeking a part time research assistant for the pediatric neurology clinical research center at Columbia University Medical Center. The candidate will report to the respective PI's of the studies under consideration, and provide support in guiding, shaping, and executing neurodevelopmental disorder research initiatives related to genetically identified disorders such as autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability.


Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Assist Principal Investigator (PI) in the implementation and conduct of study protocols in pediatric neurology.
  • Develop and implement IRB approvals and related correspondence.
    Develop and implement legal data use agreements and material transfer agreements in accordance with Columbia’s Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) and CTO offices.
  • Screen potential participants; design data platform suitable for patient data (such as REDCap); enter screening data into the appropriate database. Maintain the study calendar and database to ensure seamless communication between potential participants, the PI, and any other investigators involved.
  • Administer questionnaires and collect data in accordance with study protocols.
  • Assist with statistical data analysis and presentation of data.
  • Understand and implement the informed consent process prior to initiating any protocol-defined procedures.
  • Assist with training and coordination of work of research assistants and communicate with PI to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Perform biological specimen preparation under the supervision of clinical research unit staff.
  • Additional responsibilities include maintaining compliance with existing policies and procedures at Columbia University, the IRB, FDA, NIH, and NYPH that relate to clinical research conducted at the Pediatric Neurology Neurodevelopmental Research Center.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
  • Lastly, while not a requirement, if the worker has experience in developmental screenings such as Bayley Scales of Infant Development, this will be of particular interest as a clinical rater for the clinical trials.

 


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least one and one-half years of related experience or equivalent in education, training, and experience.
