The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Production Center Manager is responsible for the booking, circulation, maintenance, and repair schedule of all circulating equipment for the School of the Arts. This includes but is not limited to any and all cameras, lenses, audio recording equipment, lighting, grip, and electric equipment, Macintosh computers, and tablets and accessories used by students and faculty in production activity in the School of the Arts. The incumbent is also responsible for supervising the student staff of the School of the Arts’ Production Center to ensure a positive undergraduate and graduate student experience, and training them on Production Center policies as necessary. Develops and maintains a yearly physical inventory of all installed instructional equipment in labs, studios and classrooms for review by the Director of Motion Picture, Instructional and Information Technology as well as Risk Management.


Responsibilities

  • Cultivates and maintains an open, inviting, and positive environment as the front-facing staff member at the Production Center with a commitment to developing a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion in the working environment, programs and services. Has superior customer service skills and is able to mitigate and foresee student production problems and advise students on best practices.
  • In concert with Associate Director as delegated, recruits, selects, trains and supervises student workers.
  • Manages all booking permissions and updates to student booking privileges.
  • In consultation with Associate Director, maintains an accurate database of all physical assets at the Production Center, including in-house and circulating material used by students, faculty and staff of the School of the Arts. Ensures safety standards are met within the Production Center.
  • Assists in scheduling equipment packages for all student productions and presentations, communicating clearly with students about equipment availability.
  • Oversees the daily circulation of all equipment orders and ensures that they are properly documented both at check-in and check-out. Lifts, moves, and stores various pieces of equipment, some weighing up to 60 pounds (e.g. cameras, lenses, audio recording equipment, lighting, grip, and electric equipment, computers, and tablets).
  • Communicates all circulating policies and procedures and enforces policies related to circulating materials. Communicates with students about damage to circulating materials and coordinate replacement/payment.
  • Advises students on a per-project basis about Production Center equipment availability and function, ensuring that students understand the resources and their use and availability.
  • In concert with Associate Director as delegated, assesses late fees and fines in accordance with SoA and University policies; recommends to Director of Motion Picture and Information Technology appropriate discipline for MFA and undergraduate student infractions of SoA and University policies.
  • Ensures that student staff maintain all equipment in good working order and oversee reservation schedule advise students on policies and procedures for use of Prentis Studio.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 2-4 years of related experience required, including at least two years of technical experience in use and maintenance of film and video equipment and production resources.
  • Lifts, moves and stores various pieces of equipment, some weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and supervise student workers required.
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, and have the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be a self-starter and capable of operating with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential information is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) are necessary, with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to work closely with staff, faculty, and students from diverse backgrounds is required.
  • Commitment to service is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at a camera, sound, grip or lighting rental facility preferred.
