The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
The Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to work within the outpatient practice of the NYP/Columbia University Lupus Center. The NP will work collaboratively with Physicians, NP peers, Registered Nurses, other members of the multidisciplinary care team, and administrative support staff within the Division of Rheumatology.
Responsibilities
- Obtain patient history, perform comprehensive and targeted physical examinations, order and evaluate diagnostic tests, and manage chronic, as well as acute patient problems
- Triage clinical questions and concerns from patients
- Counsel and educate patients and their caregivers on disease processes and care management outside the hospital
- Facilitate and deliver care to patients collaboratively and autonomously
- Obtain and review outside records/reports as needed and follow-up/collaborate with the physician to re-develop the treatment plan as necessary
- Provide education support regarding different treatment protocols
- Order medication and document all patient-caregiver encounters in the EMR
- Order, supervise and administer infusions
- Provide clinical support, as needed, for patients receiving IV medications in the infusion center
- Provide support for multiple clinical research studies through the coordination and implementation of clinical trials and protocols involving human subjects
- Screen and enroll patients in clinical trials according to research protocols
- Perform study related procedures, without direct supervision by the PI
- Supervise, train and evaluate research data associates and student volunteers
- Assign specific research activities to specific staff
- Maintain accurate case report forms
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of experience
- Current New York State NP and RN license
- Board certification
- BCLS, ACLS certifications
- Familiarity and proficiency with computer-based programs, such as EMR systems, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel
Other Requirements
- Participation in Medical Surveillance program required
- Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
- Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
