The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Affairs the Stewardship and Development Operations Manager will provide operational support for the development and alumni relations team at Columbia University School of Nursing.  S/He will provide key stewardship, donor relations and operational support for fundraising and alumni engagement initiatives focusing on scholarships and endowed funds, donor relations support for leadership prospects, including the Board of advisors, website administration, gift, and expense reconciliation for the department.


Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

Stewardship and Development Operational Management (50%)

  • Partner with the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Affairs to design, implement, and continuously enhance a comprehensive and innovative stewardship program for principal and major gift prospects and donors of the School of Nursing. This work ensures meaningful donor engagement, appropriate recognition, and timely, high-quality reporting that strengthens long-term relationships and promotes sustained philanthropic support.
  • Support the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Affairs in the effective management of the School of Nursing Board of Advisors and leadership prospects. Responsibilities include coordinating Board and committee meetings, preparing agendas and materials including briefings, data requests, proposals, facilitating follow-up actions, and ensuring clear communication of outcomes and deliverables.
  • Support the timely, efficient, and well-coordinated execution of stewardship cycles, including managing and responding to data requests and ensuring related office workflows are aligned and effective.
  • Prepare timely, customized and personalized stewardship reports for donors and funders that clearly communicate the impact and outcomes of their contributions.
  • Collaborate closely with faculty, staff, students, and School of Nursing leadership to ensure stewardship activities and data-driven initiatives are aligned with the School’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

Relationship and Outreach Management (20%)

  • Assist in the planning and execution of donor engagement opportunities, including campus visits, recognition ceremonies, and special events.
  • Partner with faculty and staff to facilitate meaningful connections between donors and beneficiaries, such as student scholarship recipients and faculty researchers.
  • Support the management of the annual scholarship and Deans Dinner event and assist with the implementation and delivery of additional stewardship, student, and engagement programs as they are developed.
  • Assess the effectiveness of stewardship and engagement initiatives and recommend enhancements to strengthen the overall donor experience.
  • Represent the Development and Alumni Relations Department with internal and external constituencies through written, verbal and in person interactions

Communications, Data Systems and Financial support (20%)

  • Draft and coordinate the production of donor and alumni e-communications, stewardship materials, and special acknowledgment letters, including preparing original correspondence for supervisor review.
  • Manage and maintain donor and alumni mailing and email distribution lists to support effective and targeted communications.
  • Assist with website updates, prospect research, and proposal development in support of fundraising and stewardship efforts.
  • Support the accurate recording and tracking of gifts, pledges, endowment income allocations, and related expenses in accordance with institutional and financial guidelines.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of donor and prospect data within advancement systems by consistently tracking development activities, maintaining donor lists, and completing event-related data entry.
  • Process all gift transmittals and complete departmental expense reconciliation in a timely and accurate manner.

Strategic Project Support (10%)

  • Performing other responsibilities and projects as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree and minimum of four years of experience in stewardship, donor relations, development operations or related field (preferably in higher education or healthcare). 
  • Experience using Salesforce (or a comparable email broadcasting tool), CRM software, MS Office Suite, and a working knowledge of graphic design programs.
  • The successful candidate must possess strong writing, storytelling, relationship management and communication skills with the ability to craft personalized donor centered messaging.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal, written and analytical skills; attention to details; and have the ability to work in fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • A demonstrated commitment to the mission of nursing education, research, and community health.
  • S/he should have the ability to work proactively, both independently and as a team, and be able to exercise excellent judgment, tact and diplomacy in all interactions. 
  • The incumbent will also possess the ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain a high level of confidentiality.  
  • S/he must be able to accurately handle diverse projects and a large volume of detailed work simultaneously, and use good judgment in prioritizing work.
