Position Summary

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology is seeking a Laboratory Coordinator of Renal Pathology EM (Electron Microscopy) Ultra-thin Sectioning. The incumbent will support the direct supervision of renal technical staff performing EM ultra-thin sectioning preparation.  In addition, the incumbent will maintain ultra-thin sectioning laboratory equipment and carries out and maintain quality assurance and quality controls policies and procedures.  The incumbent will also maintain statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory.

Responsibilities

• 55% - Performs EM electron microscopy ultra-thin sectioning.
• 15% - Supervises renal technical staff performing EM ultra-thin sectioning preparation.
• 10% - Facilitates troubleshooting and resolution of routine technical issues.
• 5% -   Effectively troubleshoots and maintains laboratory equipment. Supports maintaining supply inventory.
• 5% -   Trains new hires and other supporting staff.
• 5% -   Successfully carries out and maintains QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures. Maintains statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory.
• 5% -   Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience; and three years of experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

• MS or higher degree in the relevant field.
• Previous EM ultramicrotomy skills.
• New York State Department of Education Clinical Lab Technician/Technologist license or Histology technician license

Other Requirements

• Routine and specialized histology skills.
• Ability to work in an organized manner in accordance with established regulations, policies, and procedures. 
• Must have experience with highly complex laboratory equipment and/ or computer applications. 
• Must be able to work independently and under limited supervision. 
• Must have specialized theoretical understanding and practical experience in a particular area of research.
