The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Provides leadership in the management and development of their assigned University's Board Plan Operations. Responsible for all functions of the Board Plan Operation including financial planning and results, supervision of staff, inventory control, procurement of supplies, menu development, health department and OSHA compliance.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for providing leadership in management and development of the department's board plan operation
- Accountable for developing, planning, and administering the continuous improvement of all aspects of Dining Services at the assigned location
- Supervises and supports the Executive Director's plan to attain the location's operational goals while also reinforcing Columbia University's Campus Services' Vision and Values
- Supervises all staff assigned to the location to ensure customer and associate satisfaction in a healthy and safe work environment
- Identify opportunities and implement new ideas to facilitate the achievement of unit financial goals. Remain aware of industry trends and constantly seek and implement innovative new products and services for customers
- Plan, implement, and monitor equipment, food, and supplies purchases. Monitor food production systems, service, and sanitation to ensure outstanding daily food quality. Maintain acceptable inventory levels
- Ensure adherence to Federal, State, Local, and Columbia University sanitation and OSHA rules, regulations, standards, and codes
- Utilize a variety of tools to assess customer's opinions. Recommend future program, pricing, facility design and equipment changes to meet the changing needs and desire of customers
- Work with the Marketing Team to develop and implement promotional programs on a frequent, regular basis
- Work with department Human Resources to enhance staff performance through professional development activities, the development of clearly states objectives, and the use of training and performance appraisal mechanisms
- Responsible for all food production systems at the Board Plan Operations including Inventory, Production Worksheets, Menu Costing, Product Pricing, and Analysis
- Procure food and supplies from vendors
- Responsible for all financial results tied to the assigned location(s)
- Reach out to assist other departments and/or locations within Campus Services to meet their customer's needs
- Assist in special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; candidates may substitute 6 years of related professional experience in lieu of degree requirement. A minimum of 5 years of related experience is required; preferably in food production leadership position
- Excellent interpersonal skills required
- Experience with computers desirable
- Experience managing management personnel desirable
- Ability to work in a commercial kitchen environment and operate industrial kitchen appliances/machinery
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekends
