The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Center for Public Research and Leadership (CPRL) is seeking a full-time Evolutionary Learning Associate. The two-year position provides a robust development process to prepare public-sector oriented early professionals for leadership and management positions in public- and social-sector organizations undertaking and supporting transformational change in P-12 education and in the public sector as a whole.

This position is located in New York City and reports to the Executive Director.

About The Center for Public Research and Leadership:

The Center for Public Research and Leadership (CPRL) is a partnership of professional schools that prepares students for leadership positions in public education organizations committed to improving the life chances of all children, particularly those of color, from low-income households, or otherwise traditionally underserved. The program brings together upper-level graduate students in business, education, law, and policy from universities across the nation to study and engage in consulting projects serving public- and social-sector organizations undertaking and supporting transformational change in P-12 education and in the public sector as a whole. The program offers graduate students the rigorous, multi-disciplinary, academic, and experiential preparation they need to flourish in exciting leadership, management, and professional positions in those same organizations while simultaneously offering the organizations high-quality, low-cost consulting support.


Assists Directors in external research and consulting projects in the P-12 education sector.

  • Team management: Sets up and participates in project management structures; promotes team cohesion; executes against project management structures, plans, and assigned tasks, individually and in collaboration with others.
  • Team participation: Submits high-quality, on-time deliverables to internal managers and external clients.
  • Strategy development: In collaboration with Directors and CPRL leadership, designs research and consulting strategy and methodology for projects; executes and adapts strategy and methodology; communicates strategy, vision, methodology, and outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Professional development of team: Provides and responds to feedback from students, interns, peers, and managers.
  • Serves as liaison with client organizations: Serves as the secondary point of contact (supporting Directors) with the client; develops project scope of work; manages student-client interaction; documents all changes in project scope.
  • Develops Evolutionary Learning knowledge, skills, and mindsets: Audits CPRL seminar and skills courses; identifies individual areas of strength and growth; formulates, enacts, and refines plans for professional development.
  • Communicates with project Director(s) responsible for work portfolio: Updates and receives feedback from Director(s) about project work and progress; surfaces issues for additional support; integrates feedback into work.
  • Collaborates with CPRL staff, especially with the Director team, to ensure successful execution of responsibilities: Collaboratively troubleshoots problems and engages in discussions and exercises to enhance project quality.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and advanced degree in business, education, law (JD, LLM) or policy required plus 4-6 years of significant experience required. 
  • Alumnus/a of CPRL’s Public Policy Seminar and Practicum preferred.
  • Quantitative or qualitative research skills preferred.
  • Minimum two years of P-12 education-related experience in management consulting, organizational leadership, program design or evaluation, research, and/or other relevant area.
  • Experience as a P-12 teacher or experience teaching/mentoring young professionals preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, direct, and carry out projects with minimal supervision and to work closely with stakeholders in public sector or non-profit agencies.
  • Intellectual capacity to think strategically in a fast-paced environment; understand multiple perspectives; learn about new topics; problem solve and develop responsive solutions under changing circumstances.
  • Ability to respond to and integrate feedback from both peers and supervisors; ability to communicate feedback to individuals and teams in a clear and productive manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, project management, and communication skills.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Must be able to work with diverse constituencies and support an inclusive work environment
