Position Summary
Performs transmission electron microscopy on renal (and other) surgical specimens. Functions as Attending Renal Pathologist extender in the role of selecting of the diagnostic fields that need to be photographed for subsequent usage for rendering patient diagnosis. Performs photography of pertinent diagnostic fields.
Responsibilities
- 75% - Perform transmission electron microscopy on renal (and other) surgical specimens. Performs photography of pertinent diagnostic fields
- 10% - Organizes a large volumes of electronic data, information, and images. Demonstrate independent technical judgement.
- 5% - Analyze, resolves, and troubleshoots various day to day electron microscopy related tasks as needed. Assist in setting up, evaluating, and troubleshooting new techniques. Effective troubleshooting and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- 5% - Successfully carrying out and maintaining QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures. Maintain statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory.
- 5% - Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in education and training with three years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree with major in biological science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Specialized training in electron microscopy, analytical instrumentation, and electronic equipment . Specialized training to analyze samples of tissue and cells to aid in determining the diagnosis and cause of diseases using electron microscopy.
Other Requirements
- Ability to handle and organize large volumes of electronic data, information, and images.
- Knowledge of electron microscope operation and ability to perform troubleshooting of the instrument
- Ultra-structural knowledge of biological sample
- New York State Department of Education Clinical Lab Technician/Technologist license or Histology Technician License
- Operation of ultra-microtome with a diamond knife.
- Practical knowledge and experience with EM microscopy ultra-thin sectioning
