Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager for Communications and Events, and Associate Director for Program Strategy and Communication, the candidate will work independently and pro-actively towards planning, developing and editing written, graphic, and video content for distribution on multiple platforms including email, website, YouTube, and others.

The Irving Institute is home to Columbia University’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), which was launched by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2006 and has expanded to over 50 academic medical institutions across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the writing, editing, production and implementation of a broad range of internal and external communications and marketing initiatives across web, digital, and print media.
  • Perform administrative tasks consisting of generating content for the Irving Institute Newsletter, website, and social media accounts.
  • Maintain the functionality of the Irving Institute website by resolving problems, identifying system improvements, and routinely updating with relevant information. Work closely with content contributors to plan, create and edit content, and maintain consistency.
  • Assist with events and program calendar including in-person guest management, zoom event management, logistics and scheduling.
  • Work closely with the Admin Core team to assist with in-person and virtual meetings and events including scheduling, planning, logistics, material preparation, and supporting day-of needs.
  • Support data collection and maintenance for internal tracking, external reporting.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent in education, training, and experience, plus two years of related experience.

  • Marketing and/or communication experience crafting promotional messaging. Experience with posting online content and general oversight of web content; plus understanding of social media platforms.

  • A cover letter, editorial writing sample, and one graphic design example of promotional content are required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management, creating promotional content, ability to quickly learn new computer/online programs, ability to work independently, and effectively manage multiple tracking systems, with close attention to detail.  
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint). 
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar design tools.
  • Experience with Drupal, or other web development applications.  
  • Experience with graphic design, editorial writing, marketing terminology, and advertising principles.
