Position Summary
A Clinical Coordinator III (RN) for is needed to provide patient care and education in an outpatient clinical setting within the Division of Medical Hematology/Oncology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The Clinical Coordinator III will report directly to the Outpatient Oncology Nursing Directors.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patient and family.
- Develop, implement, and track patient education efforts as they relate to medical oncology and its treatment.
- Address psychosocial concerns of patient and caregivers related to disease and treatment.
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to patients and caregivers.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessment of patients within scope, in clinical areas and via telephone in collaboration with MD/NP/PA providers.
- Communicate with MD/NP/PA regarding patient needs in a clinically appropriate and timely manner.
- Offer patient, family, and caregiver education related to symptom management, diagnosis and treatment; develop and implement patient education materials related to same.
- Collaborate with Infusion Center nurses and staff in the care and treatment of patients. Serve as a liaison between the physician and the patient/family for home and hospice care.
- Provide daily management of the clinical practice suites.
- Assist with obtaining prior authorizations and procedures as needed
- Maintain chemotherapy schedule calendar based on information provided by the NP/PA and/or MD.
- Understand and integrate cultural diversity into practice.
- Provide anticipatory guidance across illness trajectory.
- Become active participant of a multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care throughout various stages of treatment and follow-up.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
- Current NYS RN license and BLS Certification
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
- Ability to adapt to flexible schedule and fast-changing work environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Oncology Nursing
Other Requirements
- Participation in the medical surveillance program
- Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
- Wear N-95 respirator
- Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
