Position Summary
The Division of Digestive & Liver Diseases is seeking a Clinical Coordinator III (RN) to provide patient care and education in an outpatient clinical setting for various subspecialty programs in gastroenterology. Working Monday thru Friday, the RN coordinates patient care across two main areas: 1) Outpatient clinics, primarily held on HIP 8 and West 51st Street, and 2) the Endoscopy Suite.
Responsibilities include providing direct patient care, performing evaluations and consultations on patients; following up with patients pre and post endoscopy procedures; reviewing and acting on results of blood chemistries, radiologic studies, and discussing results with patients and referring physicians; and scheduling procedures.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for seeing and evaluating outpatients and inpatients requiring GI consultation.
- Acts as a resource in facilitating collection of patient medical records, pathology slides, and imaging results in preparation for first visit.
- Responsible for triage of all calls in which a patient indicates that they may need an urgent clinical intervention.
- Addresses any questions and provides assistance with clinical matters as indicated by the frontline administrative team.
- Supports outpatient care for office visits, follow-ups, and procedures.
- Conducts histories and physicals on all assigned patients.
- Conducts preliminary consultations and presents appropriate clinical information to attending staff.
- Performs comprehensive nursing assessment of patients within scope, in clinical areas and via telephone in collaboration with MD.
- Communicates with MD regarding patient needs in a clinically appropriate and timely manner and maintains therapeutic relationships with patient and family.
- Communicates effectively with attending physicians, and collaborates closely with all health care disciplines to ensure continuity of care and efficient and high quality care.
- Collaborates with Endoscopy Suite nurses and staff in the care and treatment of patients.
- Provides compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to patients and caregivers.
- Addresses psychosocial concerns of patient and caregivers related to disease and treatment.
- Develops, implements, and tracks patient education efforts
- Demonstrates professional skills in expediting patient care.
- Networks with other clinical disciplines and support staff in expediting pre-operative evaluations.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience
- Current New York State RN license and BLS certification
- Must be available to work a full week schedule, Monday-Friday
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in gastroenterology and/or surgery practice
- Spanish language skills
Other Requirements
- Participation in the medical surveillance program
- Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
- Wear N-95 respirator
- Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
