Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Clinical Coordinator II / RN to join our team in a full time position to work within the division of Gastroenterology. Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing clinical support and care coordination to our Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology.
Responsibilities
Clinical: 50%
- Work with nurse practitioners and physicians during clinic visits.
- Patient and family education.
- Feeding tube management.
- Central line care.
- Pillcam endoscopy placement.
- Assist with motility and pH probe placements.
- Administer clinic medications, such as IBD medications and flu shots.
- Preliminary assessment of patients.
- Timely follow up with patients and families regarding test results and pending tests.
- Telephone triage from patients/families in conjunction with Gastroenterology attending, nurse practitioner or fellow.
- Coordinate with inpatient team to secure outpatient Gastroenterology clinic appointment and meet with inpatient families when needed.
- Patient care coordination with Gastroenterology patients via email, EPIC notation and phone call follow up with other clinical services; coordinate referrals to other specialties e.g. dermatology, immunology, etc.
- Patient care coordination with durable medical equipment companies, home care agencies and school nurses.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Administrative and Analytics: 50%
- Assist with prescription refills and communicate with insurance companies as needed.
- Provide letters of medical necessity for infusions and medications.
- Prepare orders in EPIC (i.e. prescriptions and lab work) for physician sign off.
- Documentation of care plan in EPIC.
- Clinic supplies management.
- Review patient clinical data to promote healthcare maintenance.
- Review clinical data (volume, new patients) for specialty programs (IBD, Short Gut).
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
