Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Clinical Coordinator II-RN to join our team in a full time position. Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing clinical support to our imaging subsection. 


  • Duties and Responsibilities:


    • Review all requisitions for inpatient and outpatient cardiac MRIs and Cardiac CTs and will be able to establish priority and help coordinate schedule of all patients but particularly of patients who need to be added on a more urgent basis.  This will include reviewing availability of the scanners and coordination with anesthesia.
    • Assist with coordination for same day MRI/catheterizations as well as coordination between cath/Interventional radiology and cardiac MRI teams for the lymphatic program.
    • The Clinical Coordinator II-RN will be able to act as liaison between families and the interventional teams.
    • Provide clinical knowledge to assist in administrative support allowing for a better distribution of caseload and more efficient use of resources.
    • Act as a liaison between referring physicians and the imaging team and can address questions or concerns from referring physicians and patients and their families. It will become easier for physicians and patients to have access to an imaging physician and improve referral relationships.
    • Responsible to relay results as well as send imaging (as is commonly done in other centers- for referring physicians who do not have access to the PACs system).
    • Maintain the cardiac CT database and creating a new Cardiac MRI database as we move away from Filemaker pro and transition to Epic.
    • The Clinical Coordinator II-RN will help coordination of contrast echocardiograms (bubble studies) done to rule out an intracardiac or intrapulmonary shunt.   
    • Will be responsible for access and injections during the study with oversight of the reading cardiologist.
    • Help coordinate echocardiograms that require sedation by working with anesthesia and the staff on 3Tower and the echo laboratory (sonographer and imaging attending). 
    • The incumbent will be responsible for clinical evaluation before (history etc.) and after (recovery after anesthesia). 
    • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience required plus four years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training and experience in a health science discipline, such as public health, nursing, health services research, physiology, biochemistry or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of clinical research or other applicable research experience preferred.
  • Clinical research or other applicable research experience in hematology, oncology or bone marrow transplantation preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Must have a NYS RN License, maintain, and renew when necessary. 
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and great teamwork are key attributes for this position.
  • Problem solving skills and the have the ability to think algorithmically.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Work requires manual dexterity for handling charts and using office equipment - specifically the use of a computer keyboard and calculator. 
  • Must be able to stoop and bend to retrieve files and supplies, and sit, stand or move around for extended periods.
