Position Summary
The Billing Compliance Specialist will be responsible for leading the Department of Surgery's compliance program.
Responsibilities
- Assess clinical documentation to confirm it supports medical services for appropriate billing of reported services.
- CPT and ICD-10 coding will be assessed and monitored.
- Provide ongoing education and training in coding and documentation practices for clinicians.
- Observing and educating new and existing providers with their documentation.
- Communicate policy changes and updates with Coding Specialist team members and assist with their coding inquiries!
- Responsible to compliance of all in basket messages including chart completion and results folders.
- Mentoring physicians on how to bill for services appropriately.
- Coordination of retrospective monthly billing compliance review of inpatient surgeries and evaluation and management services for the department.
- Preparation of monthly summary reports for the Department Administrator and for the Office of Billing Compliance.
- Coordinate existing compliance with existing Departmental policies.
- Assist with preparation, editing, and revision of provider encounter forms as necessary.
- Perform related administrative tasks as directed by Department Administrator.
- Provide excellent education and teaching to faculty and staff.
- Productive integration/collaboration with the Department's faculty, practice staff and Columbia's Office for Billing and Compliance.

Minimum Qualifications
- Requires bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and 4yrs experience
Other Requirements
- CPC certification (AAPC)
- Intermediate Microsoft Office
- Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
- Effective interpersonal and communications skills required. Excellent telephone etiquette.
- Knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.
- EPIC or other practice management system experience preferred.
- Must be able to adapt to a growing and changing environment.
