Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, the Associate Director, Generalist will be a key client-facing member of the Columbia Business School Human Resources team, working across both the administrative (staff) and academic (faculty, student, and research) teams. The Associate Director will be responsible for supporting key client-facing functions in the office, including recruitment, professional development, onboarding and offboarding, and leaves, as well as client service/communications. The Associate Director is responsible for working independently and strategically managing the various initiatives and activities of the Human Resources department, working to ensure smooth efficiency, effectiveness, and success, while exercising discretion and judgment in performing a wide variety of duties. The Associate Director responds to all inquiries in a timely and efficient manner and exemplifies the customer service values and standards representative of CBS and service commitment of the Human Resources department.
Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and/or its equivalent required. 3-5 years of related experience required.
Must have demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral, written, customer service, and presentation skills. Demonstrated proficiency in computer/technical skills, Microsoft Office, particularly in the creation of spreadsheets and the use of a database needed. Must have strong attention to detail, with a proven ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks independently and work well under deadlines required. Must be a proven team player, able to work cooperatively in small groups as well as independently, managing various projects with changing deadlines. Strategic/ forward thinking mindset needed. Must exercise tact and discretion when interacting with the school’s diverse constituencies, including faculty, students, and administrators. Discretion and judgment with sensitive and confidential matters are essential. Must be able to be calm under times of high volume. Must be able to work evenings as appropriate. A confidentiality agreement will be required.
Preferred Qualifications
SHRM certification is highly preferred. Familiarity with PeopleSoft applications, event management, and knowledge of Columbia University human resources policies and procedures desired.
