Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, the Associate Director, DEI manages the marketing, recruiting, and selection of future MBA classes, reviewing the credentials, and advising on admission decisions for approximately 6,000 applications annually. The Associate Director collaborates with the Senior Director on increasing diversity of the MBA student body. The focus of this position is on the recruiting and retention of qualified under-represented minority candidates at the school.


Responsibilities

  • Work with the Senior Director, DEI in creating, developing, and executing diversity recruitment and yield strategies and initiatives for populations including, but not limited to, underrepresented minority, LGBTQ+, and military prospective students.
  • Design and execute in-person and virtual events, including capstone events for 250+ candidates of the aforementioned groups; lead partnership efforts with related student affinity clubs, cultivate and maintain relationships with current students, alumni, faculty, and administrators and solicit their participation in said events.
  • Work with the Senior Director, on operations and communications around Columbia Business School’s partnership with the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management; coordinate application integration with Slate, oversee application processing strategy, and manage marketing materials including website and info session content.
  • Work with Admissions Leadership team and Financial Aid to identify potential scholarship recipients with the goal to build an increasing percentage of under-represented minorities into each consecutive class.
  • Evaluate and recommend applicants: duties will include reading and evaluating applications and conducting interviews. Serve as a member of the Admission Committee.
  • Promote and market programs: Gain a thorough understanding of our MBA, EMBA, Dual Degree and Deferred Enrollment programs, coordinate and deliver virtual, on, and off-campus presentations, and participate in other general recruitment activities as determined by supervisor. Represents the Business School at public forums locally and nationally (approximately two to four weeks of travel per year), to prospective candidates, and to outside professional organizations and associations.
  • Lead the coordination of the DEI team’s individual and small group meetings with underrepresented candidates to ensure they have the support and encouragement needed to apply.
  • Participate in partnerships with third-party diversity admissions organizations and partner schools. 
  • In partnership with DEI director, help create communications strategy for the targeted populations, including outreach communications to prospective and admitted students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree and/or its equivalent required. 3-5 years related experience required.

    Must have demonstrated excellent presentation, organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills required. Strong computer skills, including abilities for geo-statistical reporting and the coordination of multiple targeted mailings. Must be comfortable presenting the MBA Program to diverse audiences, including prospective applicants, alumni, and corporate persons. Ability to travel (domestic and international) and work evenings and weekends required.
