The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice Dean of Education at the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, the Associate Dean for Enrollment Management (Admissions, Financial Aid, and Enrollment Services) is responsible for establishing a strategic operational plan for enrollment management to establish enrollment targets aligned with the school’s mission. The experienced and data-driven Associate Dean for Enrollment Management will provide leadership, strategic direction, management, and oversight for all activities related to recruitment, admissions, financial aid, and student enrollment lifecycle for Columbia's Mailman School of Public Health, located at the Columbia Medical Center Campus. The candidate will provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to a team of admissions, financial aid and enrollment services professionals and will have demonstrated experience in management and team building.

The Associate Dean is responsible for:

  • Vision - Partners with the Vice Dean for Education and other senior staff to conceptualize a vision, strategy, and leadership to advance the School’s mission via Admissions, Financial Aid and Enrollment services initiatives. This includes a focus on enrolling a talented and diverse graduate student body that represents the School’s priorities. In partnership with the Vice Dean for Education, the Vice Dean for Finance and Departmental Leadership, sets strategic goals for enrollment and creates scholarship strategies and enrollment processes designed to achieve established goals.
  • Strategic leadership- Serves on committees or working groups as appropriate. Interact regularly with a range of diverse stakeholders, on a variety of issues that could include faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry executives, donors, etc. Attend University and School committee meetings and represent the School on behalf of senior leadership. In particular, provide leadership for School-wide Masters Degree Admissions Committee.
  • Compliance- Develops and directs enrollment management strategies (Admissions, Financial Aid, and Enrollment Services) within the framework of federal and state regulations that are consistent with the targeted objectives of the school. This role is responsible for oversight of all aspects of Financial Aid, this includes knowledge of Federal Regulations, liaising with the Central Financial Aid Office particularly in regard to compliance and audit, and managing prospective and current student packaging.
  • Marketing & Recruitment - Partner with Communications to develop effective strategies for marketing degree programs to prospective domestic and international students. Provides leadership on planning and execution of events for the recruitment of potential and admitted applicants, orientation, and graduation. Utilize data to assess the effectiveness of marketing and recruitment efforts. Serve as ambassador for the School in communicating its message to prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty, staff, board of overseers, national/professional associations and other external constituents.
  • Assessment & Evaluation Degree Candidates - Provide leadership and make policy decisions in the development, review, and amendment of all degree program application materials and requirements. Lead development and implementation of strategy for processing and evaluating applications for admissions including the training and monitoring of admissions staff and faculty readers. Providing quantitative and qualitative reporting on admissions and enrollment data to school leadership. Work with academic and student support professionals across the school to develop orientation programs and student enrollment policies that support student success. Ensure successful satisfactory academic progress and graduation degree audit processes.
  • Systems & Analytics - Provide guidelines to systems administrators with the goal of ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and quality of admissions, financial aid, and enrollment data for analytics and reporting. Provide direction to staff who perform data analytics and produce reports that best inform admissions and merit-based financial aid decisions to help meet the School’s goals. Ensure the effective use of the School's CRM, Student Information System (SIS), PowerFaids, Stellic and others student enrollment systems.
  • Operational Management (Budgeting & HR) - Oversee all operational management functions for the department. Inspires team and individual performers to achieve high levels of performance. Encourages professional growth and development for all staff. As such, partners closely with Human Resources on personnel matters, especially to attract and retain strong performers. Work closely with the Financial Planning office to ensure the department runs on budget and all reporting is accurate, monitored, and timely. Implement cost control measures where needed and recommend any plans for budget shifts where appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum 10+ years related experience required, including substantial leadership/management experience. 
  • Must have strong strategic ability and superior communications/presentation skills.
  • Must have a collaborative leadership style, including supervisory experience.
  • Should have an in-depth knowledge about Admissions and Financial Aid policies and procedures.
  • Should have experience with utilizing an evidence-based method for Financial Aid distribution and implementing strategic marketing and outreach campaigns.
  • Must have a creative approach to problem solving, and the ability to take advantage of emerging opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree strongly preferred.
