The Associate Athletics Director for Facilities Operations and Capital Planning has oversight of all facilities-related work, planning, and operations for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education. This role collaborates with the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Physical Education, Deputy Athletics Director for Operations & Administration, and the CFO to manage and execute the facilities master plan, while also overseeing facilities needs at all Athletics Department locations. This role encompasses a wide range of leadership responsibilities contributing to the successful management and execution of Athletics Department operations.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the main stakeholders at all locations where Columbia University Athletics employees are active - including, but not limited to, Dodge Fitness Center, Baker Athletics Complex, Nash Building, Overpeck Rowing Center, and Milstein Family Tennis Center - to ensure that all basic facilities needs are met.
  • Devise and maintain a Facilities Master Plan for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education, including all locations, projects, and processes.
  • Act as primary liaison with Columbia University Capital Project Management, as well as contractors, architects, and engineers, to plan, design, and execute new construction and renovations.
  • Act as primary liaison with Columbia University Facilities Operations to help manage upkeep and maintenance of all campus athletics facilities.
  • Lead facility scheduling discussions alongside Asst. AD for Events and Baker Facilities Operations, Assoc. AD for Physical Education, Recreation, & Facilities, sports program administrators, and other related staff members to oversee the scheduling of facilities for varsity, club, and intramural sports, physical education classes, rentals, and internal and external events.
  • Develop, manage, and track facilities budgets, including maintenance expenses and capital improvement needs.
  • Facilitate and oversee revenue generation opportunities through rentals and events.
  • Oversee vehicle management responsibilities for Columbia Athletics, filling the role of Vehicle Coordinator, liaising with the University fleet management system, collaborating with internal and campus partners to manage the scheduling and maintenance of the department's vehicles, and managing the training and approval of drivers.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, Ivy League, and Columbia University policies and procedures, including maintaining ADA standards and updating safety protocols when needed.
  • Provide on-site leadership or support for Columbia University events and athletics contests, particularly when the volume of events is highest. This can include covering on-site administrator responsibilities at home varsity contests as well as providing operational planning and in-person support for large departmental events.
  • Exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to NCAA, Ivy League Conference, University, and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education rules and regulations.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the Department.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Director, Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 -7 years related experience
  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree desirable.
  • Demonstrated record of successful planning, budgeting, analyzing and managing capital resources required
  • Valid US Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • Experience with capital planning and executing capital projects highly preferred
  • Successful experience in athletics administration, NCAA Division I level preferred
