The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Special Operations & Events, the incumbent is responsible for assisting in the coordination of all other-than routine Public Safety operations at the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses. Responsibilities continues to grow in scope as the Manhattanville expansion grows.


Responsibilities

  • In the absence of the Director, the Assistant Director, Special Operations and Events will attend pre-event reviews and planning sessions related to these events and special operations and will make recommendations to the Director regarding the appropriate level of Public Safety presence required.
  • Work with administrators, faculty, student groups, and outside entities to accomplish the same.
  • Activities of this position include participating in the planning and managing of all sensitive and high-profile events, including but not limited to:
    • Commencement
    • Student Move-In/Move-Out
    • Convocation
    • Class Days
    • World Leader's Forum
    • University Seminars and athletic events
  • Prepares all necessary documentation and ensures efficient scheduling of proprietary or contract guards for all events requiring a Public Safety presence beyond normal operations.
  • Assists Director as liaison with Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement agencies and other security entities on all matters of mutual concern related to University events; coordinates plans and coverage.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols tailored to specific events.
  • Coordinates risk assessments and emergency response plans for diverse events.
  • Works closely with event organizers, campus departments, and local law enforcement to ensure seamless coordination,
  • Acts as the liaison between the campus safety department and external event stakeholders.
  • Provides on-site supervision during events to monitor and address safety concerns in real time. 
  • Coordinates deployment of security personnel and first responders as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of related experience, preferably in security or law enforcement operations in a large organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must possess the ability to work effectively and tactfully with a broad constituency of students, faculty, staff, and other building occupants.
