Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, the Assistant Director assists the MBA admissions program in the planning, development, and implementation of diversity recruitment initiatives, focusing on enrolling a high-quality, diverse student body that enhances the reputation of the Columbia Business School.


Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and recommend applicants: duties may include reading and evaluating applications and conducting interviews. Serve as a member of the Admission Committee.
  • Promote and market programs: Gain a thorough understanding of our MBA, EMBA, and Deferred Enrollment programs, coordinate and deliver virtual, on, and off-campus presentations, and participate in other general recruitment activities as determined by supervisor.
  • Coordinate diversity recruitment and yield initiatives: plan and execute recruitment and yield events for populations including, but not limited to, underrepresented minority, LGBTQ+, and military prospective students; conduct individual and small group meetings with candidates to ensure they have the support and encouragement needed to apply; represent Columbia Business School at off-campus diversity recruitment events.
  • Participate in partnerships with third-party diversity admissions organizations and partner schools.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with current students, alumni, faculty, and administrators and solicit their participation in said events.
  • Deliver on communications strategy as set by supervisor, including outreach communications to prospective and admitted students.
  • Coordinate with Business School departments (Publications, Public Relations, and Computing and Information Services): duties may include activities related to advertising, publications, website, content management, PowerPoint presentation, etc.
  • Perform other relevant duties as needed and assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree and/or its equivalent degree required.  A minimum of 2 years related experience required.

    Excellent presentation, interpersonal, written and oral communication and computer skills required (proficiency with MS Office Suite). Ability to travel (domestic and international) and work evenings and weekends required. Candidate must possess strong skills in diplomacy, tact, and discretion.   The ability to work independently in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and multiple responsibilities is an asset.
