The purpose of the technician position is to carry out much of the data collection for the grant, which involves growing plants in a growth chamber, operating and maintaining instruments to take measurements, and processing samples, along with general laboratory organization and maintenance. In general, the work focuses on biogeochemistry and ecosystem ecology, with a particular focus on nitrogen and carbon cycling in terrestrial ecosystems. In particular, the primary focus of the grant is to study temperature sensitivities of symbiotic nitrogen fixation and the carbon cost thereof. The work location will be Columbia Morningside Campus and Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. The funding for this position runs for 2 years and 2 months. The initial appointment of one year could be extended to the end of the funding contingent upon satisfactory performance.
