Position Summary

To ensure that all New Yorkers are poised and empowered to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from future health crises, Columbia University (CU) is leading the launch and operation of the Pandemic Response Institute (PRI). This is conducted in partnership with City University of New York (CUNY), School of Public Health and Health Policy and a consortium of other NYC-based academic institutions, community organizations, and industry partners. The PRI is anchored in a lifecycle model of emergency preparedness and response that distinguishes six phases: preparation, prediction, prevention, detection, response, and calibration, and its priorities and activities will shift based on the phase (or phases) in which NYC finds itself.

The Partnership and Programs Manager will be responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities for cross-sector partnerships, affiliate programming, and convenings, managing programs across partners and ensuring relationship management across PRI. They will also support the development of PRI hubs in each Borough and in designing and managing programming to be offered by PRI at these hubs.

Reporting to the PRI Director, the Partnership Manager is expected to work proactively to develop a partnership approach and manage associated work plans and projects across PRI’s whole of society sectors. This person will facilitate and support PRI programming and convening under the leadership of faculty teams, will support the PRI Borough outreach throughout the five boroughs and will coordinate affiliate offerings for corporate supporting partners among other partners.

The position is grants funded.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a suite of multi-sectoral partner relationships and programs across the whole of New York City society, including government, industry, community, cultural and others. (20%)
  • Manage programs and convenings between PRI teams and multi-sectoral partners, including the Customer Relationship Management functions of partner database, and including (10%):
    • Manage all day-to-day communications with partners, including directing new project requests, posting opportunities to the website, and updating project information in our database
    • Address any issues with partners, and elevate issues as appropriate
    • Ensure accurate, detailed, current information about projects is available to New Yorkers
    • Regularly assess status of new partnerships and opportunities to expand current programs and partnerships
  • Manage programmatic content for specific PRI partners within the “Resilience Circle”, including outreach, convenings, conference calls, and tailored reports (5%).
  • Support the PRI Borough Hub Initiative, which aims to establish and activate a Hub for public health preparedness and response in each NYC borough in collaboration with borough partners (10%).
  • In coordination with Columbia Technology Ventures and others, identify and pursue opportunities to grow program offerings, including opportunities to work with existing partners in new ways, and continue to develop special initiatives (5%).
  • Manage a web-/app-driven calendar and map of related public health preparedness programming citywide to provide situational awareness to all partners (10%).
  • With ICAP communications team, manage partner information on PRI website, including web page updates, uploading and updating of opportunities, and regularly monitoring website content to improve offerings and opportunities for our partners (10%).
  • Serve as the primary contact for community, business, nonprofit, and cultural partners working with PRI programs across New York City (5%).
  • Support PRI in the implementation of special events, e.g. Covid-19 review convenings (5%).
  • Develop and manage volunteer and student practicum opportunities to support PRI work (5%)
  • Support special projects and initiatives as needed (5%).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or a equivalent of education, training and experience
  • 4 years of minimum experience
  • Excellent communication, writing, and quantitative skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with donors, implementing partners, and other stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while working as part of a team
  • Fluent in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or higher in public health, public administration, or management and/or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience, preferably in the areas of project development, partner engagement and management, community organizing or public health programming
  • Fluent in English and at least one other language that is widely utilized in NYC preferred, e.g. Mandarin, Spanish
  • Experience working with New York City Government or other governmental entities
