Reporting to the Managing Director of the Tamer Center for Social Enterprise, and working closely with the Center’s faculty, staff and students, is responsible for managing the Tamer Fund for Social Ventures, including liaising with social venture teams, the Center’s network of mentors and advisors, social venture incubators, alumni, investment board members, impact investors, and relevant groups across campus. The Program Manager will play an active role in planning and executing social entrepreneurship programming for the Columbia University community, and for the Center’s advisor and mentor network. This person will also assist with managing the Climate Change and Business Program and social enterprise courses, working with Center and School staff and faculty members.
- Manages all aspects of the Tamer Fund for Social Ventures such as outreach to potential applicants across Columbia and Barnard, recruiting and advising potential applicants, facilitating screening and due diligence processes by student teams, logistics of the final selection process by the Investment Board, distributing grants to portfolio ventures, liaising with teams on Columbia Startup Lab space needs, and tracking information and metrics on the venture portfolio, for communications and Investment Board reports.
- Oversees all aspects of event management for forums, workshops, webinars and events designed to deepen connections between social entrepreneurs, impact investors, funders, relevant faculty and alumni, industry experts, mentors and advisors to social ventures; collaborates with administrative and student groups across the University and in partnership with external organizations and networks.
- Communicates with venture teams to provide relevant connections and resources within the School and University, including access to pro bono consulting teams, interns and recruiting connections, and provides access and introductions for venture teams across the social enterprise ecosystem; coordinates these communications activities with Tamer Center staff, faculty and across campus with other offices and student groups.
- Works with Center staff to manage a database of contact information of venture teams, advisors and mentors, pro bono resources, external and cross campus connections, and potential speakers for event programming; coordinates with faculty and staff to support and manage outreach for other Center programming.
- Manages grant, fellowship and awards processing and tracking for Center initiatives including the Tamer Social Venture Fund, fellowships for MBA students and other Columbia students as needed.
- Works with faculty and other staff to manage annual Climate Change conference, sessions for the social enterprise conference, sustainability-related programming, and support other Center events as needed. Manage sponsorship application process for cross campus student groups looking for Tamer Center support. Work with and manage vendors/catering, services, invoices, and expenses.
- Manages the Three Cairns Climate Fellowship, which includes recruiting and liaising with potential client and student applications, managing selection and awards payment processes, organizing networking events and project presentations, tracking outcomes and developing communications and reporting materials for various constituencies.
- Works with center affiliated teaching faculty to support course-related activities e.g. speakers, events and faculty-related logistics requests.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Two to three years of related experience required.
Must have a diplomatic approach and possess outstanding interpersonal, communication, writing and networking skills. Must possess knowledge, enthusiasm and commitment to social enterprise, and service orientation to social entrepreneurs. Ability to interact effectively with external social entrepreneurship networks, and sustainability groups across the University. Proficiency with Microsoft Office required. Must be highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while operating in a team-based environment. Cultural sensitivity required. Should be willing to work evenings when necessary.
Knowledge or experience in areas within social enterprise including social entrepreneurship, public and nonprofit management, sustainability, international development, or other related areas highly recommended. Knowledge of key social enterprise and climate change networks and social venture organizations a plus.
