Position Summary

The Electrophysiology, Memory, and Navigation Laboratory at the Biomedical Engineering Department of Columbia University is seeking a  ( grant funded) research assistant interested in Computer Graphics Engineering. This individual will support a collaborative research program using virtual reality systems to design novel computer game-like memory and navigation tasks that allow us to study the neural basis of human cognition.

This individual will participate in a vibrant interdisciplinary environment to develop novel realistic graphical paradigms, and this person will interface with a wide range of individuals including neuroscientists, engineers, and medical doctors such as neurosurgeons.

The specific responsibilities of this position include the creation of computer graphics and engineering tools for studying human memory and spatial navigation using virtual reality tools. The experience relevant to this position include expertise with virtual reality software systems, such as Unity and Unreal, and TCP/IP networking protocols. It will also be useful to have several years of experience with Python and analysis of large datasets, as well as some experience (or interest) with augmented reality toolkits such as ARKit.

The lab is located in the Columbia University Morningside campus.


Responsibilities

  • (95%) Work on ongoing research projects and assist with lab management responsibilities, as directed by the Lab Director / PI. Collaborate with other labs / PI’s under the direction of the Lab Director / PI.
  • (5%) Perform other duties and responsibilities, as directed by the Lab Director / PI.

Minimum Qualifications

  •  3+ years experience with 3D computer graphics and data science tools. Proficient in Python. Experience with virtual or augmented reality software interfaces preferred. 

    Education:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field is required.
