Position Summary

The Division of Molecular Genetics and the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician B to join our team in a full time position. Columbia University Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing research support in projects related to stress-induced feeding in mice.


  • Mouse husbandry and genotyping, development of behavioral assays in mice, as well as assisting lab-members with experiments.
  • Conduct experiments according to written instructions, participate in organizing the laboratory, place orders, prepare lab solutions, and maintain lab notebooks and record related to work.
  • Any other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in basic laboratory procedures (i.e. PCR and ELISA assays) and in working with mice is preferred but not essential.   

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to work with mice
  • Ability to read, speak, and communicate effectively in English 
  • Organizational skills and excellent communication skills are required
  • Should be organized, thorough, maintain good records, and able to work independently
  • Should have basic computer skills and be able to use Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point
