Position Summary
A focus of research in the Racaniello laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology is to elucidate a mechanism of virus associated disease resulting from SARS-CoV-2 infection. This position is under the direct supervision of the lead investigator of the project.
Responsibilities
The research assistant will support the work on SARS-CoV-2, which includes genetic, biochemical and cell based studies for understanding multiple aspects of immune dysfunction associated with virus infection. The individual will carry out experiments in cell culture and participate in the development of small animal models for studying multiple aspects of virus infection including the tissue specific cellular immune response. All work will be carried out under BSL-2 conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Previous experience working in a research lab environment studying immunology, molecular/cell biology, microbiology, or biochemistry is required. Laboratory courses do not apply.
Preferred Qualifications
Educational emphasis or strong background in molecular biology or cell biology and immunology is preferred.
Experience with mammalian cell culture and virology is desired.
Other Requirements
The ability to work independently, under minimal supervision, following appropriate training
Knowledge of basic chemical and/or biological terminology and techniques
Ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner in accordance with safety regulations
Computer literacy: experience in computational biology, proficiency with Microsoft Office, other graphical and data analysis software.
Excellent motivation, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
