Position Summary

The Center for Radiological Research is seeking a technician to work with scientists studying the health hazards and antimicrobial efficacy of ultraviolet light. They will gain experience in immunohistochemistry, animal handling and husbandry, and ultraviolet exposure techniques. The primary work location will be at the Radiological Research Accelerator Facility at the Columbia University Nevis Laboratories in Irvington, NY. Occasional work at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center may be required.


  • The technician will be trained to work with 2D and 3D cell culture models, viral and bacterial culture and assay techniques, and ultraviolet experimental equipment. 
  • This will be a team effort and the technician will be expected to maintain and share records with the team, in addition to completing scientific and technical tasks in a timely fashion. 
  • Work with Associate Research Scientist and be directly supervised by the principal investigator. 
  • Additional responsibilities pertaining to laboratory safety, organizing supplies, monitoring and ordering lab supplies, and other related duties as required. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some laboratory experience is preferred, especially familiarity with cell culture techniques and immunofluorescence.

Other Requirements

  • This position will work with chemicals, radioactive materials, and cell culture.
