Position Summary

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the direct oversight of non-interventional specimen collection research projects within the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Medical Center. This position reports directly to a Clinical Research Manager.


  • Manage all aspects of these research projects within the CPDM, including IRB submissions and MTAs as applicable.
  • Develop and maintain research project databases to centrally track consents, collections and relevant data across disease groups in the CPDMAssist HICCC Oncologists with identification and screening of patients for these research projects.
  • Obtain informed consent and coordinate specimen collections for identified patients as permissible by IRB policies and procedures and provide guidance to other coordinators in the CPDM to perform these tasks within their own disease groups as applicable.
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of the informed consent process in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Maintain organized records documenting specimen collections and transfer/shipment to collaborating labs, sequencing companies, etc.
  • Work directly with the internal processing/storing labs to keep track of specimen inventories.
  • Serve as a liaison between funding entities, sequencing companies and other collaborators to streamline communication and optimize relationships.
  • Organize and store large data sets received from collaborators and sequencing companies.
  • Work collaboratively within the CPDM to enhance efficiency and standardize management of research projects.
  • Perform other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience plus 3 years of related experience.

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication, analytical, time management and computer skills required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Ability to strategically problem solve and be adaptable to evolving research project needs to optimize the effectiveness of the position.
  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training certification, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate, and Conflict of Interest (COI) training certification are required upon hire.
  • Computer Skills: proficiency with MS Word programs and familiarity with Mac and PC platforms.
