Position Summary

This position addresses the needs of students who are experiencing challenges in areas such as academics, accommodations, physical health, psychological health, economic, discipline, family relationships, and social adjustments through a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow up services. Responsibilities include coordinating the implementation of formal accommodations, case management, and collaboration and consultation with academic deans, health care providers, and colleagues within the Mailman School of Public Health (MSPH) and the university at large. Additional activities include community outreach and education, data collection, assessment, and other relevant special projects.


  • • Serves as the MSPH Office of Disability Services Liaison and primary point person for students with approved accommodations to contact for implementation needs.
    • Managing and tracking all student issues including ensuring proper documentation and case file management of individual situations and providing regular updates to Director of Support Services
    • Maintaining relationships with University support offices, which the Assistant Director might refer students, including Student Health Services, Mental Health Services, Center for Student Wellness, Sexual Violence Response, the Office of University Life, Disability Services, etc.;
    • Provides support for students navigating the academic integrity process.
    • Serves as a primary point of contact for community members to express concerns about persons exhibiting symptoms associated with distress.
    • Manages a case load of students with academic needs by providing support, referrals, and follow-up.
    • Provides follow-up services to check on compliance with recommendations by consulting and collaborating regularly with various campus partners, departments, schools, and providers to achieve case management goals.
    • Maintains an intake system for students who have been referred to Student Support Services.
    • Provides ongoing development and provision of outreach education to the MSPH community. Outreach to include students, staff, faculty, and campus partners.
    • Develops and administers assessment plan for case management services. Assists in the preparation of departmental, division, and university reports.
    • Ability to identify students in crisis based on social work, clinical psychology or counseling psychology experience; provide support as needed
    • Offer non-confidential counseling support and referrals
    • Assist in identifying effective planning for students and/or training for faculty to prevent concerning behavior or crisis

Minimum Qualifications

  • • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health, Counseling or Psychology, Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, or Medical field.
    • Three to five years of relevant work experience.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively to groups; works well in a team-oriented environment.
    • Ability to assess information regarding persons of concern.
    • Ability to professionally and appropriately manage sensitive and private information.
    • Knowledge, experience, and comfort with recognizing mental health signs and symptoms.
    • Ability to synthesize and summarize large amounts of information, document information electronically in a timely manner, and verbally communicate with appropriate stakeholders as warranted.
    • Knowledge of MSPH and community resources and the ability to make referrals.
    • Understanding of and ability to adhere to strict privacy restrictions.
    • Skill in using technology to track and manage individual cases (Maxient).
    • Ability to assess and report on school trends.
    • Knowledge of current regulations relevant to work in higher education (i.e., Title II, III & IX; FERPA; HIPAA).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or Clinical Psychology
• Certification and/or Licensure in relevant mental health discipline
• Seven years of relevant work experience
