The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Direct Services, the Health Promotion Specialist, Wellness Coaching is responsible for providing individual and group student coaching, programming, and other wellness-focused initiatives. The Health Promotion Specialist will conduct student support appointments to foster a sense of community and belonging, enhance awareness and utilization of campus resources, facilitate workshops, trainings, department events, and other operational needs.

This is an essential on-site role. Some hybrid work options may be considered. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.


Responsibilities

Direct Services (60%)

  • Provide individual health & wellness coaching sessions.
  • Provide small group health & wellness coaching sessions.
  • Exercise significant independent decision-making during wellness coaching sessions.
  • Support direct services functions, including but not limited to resource navigation and wayfinding, health education, sexual and reproductive health, and substance use and recovery.
  • Complete case notes, referrals, and monitor data tracking, evaluation, and metrics.
  • Liaise with Alice! Health Promotion, Medical Services, Counseling & Psychological Services, and other Columbia Health staff for client referrals.

Workshops & Trainings (25%)

  • Collaborate with the Alice! Health Promotion team on all workshop and training requests.
  • Support curriculum writing and editing for workshops and trainings.
  • Facilitate workshops and trainings on content such as sleep, stress management, supporting peers, responsible substance use, and related content.
  • Support ongoing evaluation of workshops and trainings.

Operations (10%)

  • Monitor and triage inquiries from internal and external stakeholders, exercising significant independent decision-making throughout the process.
  • Support the research, writing, editing, and updating of web-based related content.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled Alice Direct Services and team meetings.
  • Manage data reconciliation projects.
  • Provide cross-coverage and backup support for Alice! Health Promotion, Columbia Health, and Columbia University programs/initiatives, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of closely related experience
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic team environment
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft suite, virtual meeting platforms)
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail and active listening skills
  • Must be able to independently problem-solve and troubleshoot
  • Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality
  • Ability to take initiative and manage progress on projects that involve multiple contributors
  • Ability to develop new ideas and creative solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, effectively manage multiple and simultaneous projects, and work with diplomacy and efficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with college students
  • Strong interest in higher education
  • Experience with direct student support including trauma-informed practices and motivational interviewing
  • National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) or Real Balance Certified Wellness & Health Coach (CWHC)
